Travel to Turkey

Оглавление документа

Info about Torkey

I was in Turkey in September of 2004 and had a great trip with Aleda Tource. The entire operation was professional and everyone was quite pleasant. I was with my girlfrend, and each day we watching the sun rise the sea from our room.

I would definitely recommend that anyone who travels to this area treat themselves to this experience. Watching the sun rise over the sea was absolutely magical.

Visitors from Latvia need a visa for entry. But you can get a sticker-type entry visa at the point of entry into Turkey, valid for three months, for a fee:

    • UK (cost: $20 / €15 / £10)
    • US (cost: US$26)
    • Canada (cost: €45)
    • Australia (cost: $20 / €15)
    • Ireland
    • The Netherlands (cost: 10 euros)
    • Italy (cost: 10 euros)
    • Portugal (cost: 10 euros)

We pay 20$ each.

By plane

Turkey's primary international gateway by air is Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport. Ankara's Esenboğa Airport handles a comparatively limited selection of international flights, and there are also direct charters to Mediterranean resort hot spots like Antalya in the peak summer and winter season. In 2005 customs at Istanbul international airport were rearranged to the effect that one has to go through customs and “enter the country” there rather than first travel on to a regional destination and pass customs there. Luggage will generally travel to the final destination without further ado, but on occasion one may have to point it out to be sure it will be transported on. The information given by flight attendants in the incoming flight may not be adequate so until the procedure is changed (it is supposed to be temporary only) it is wise to inquire on Istanbul airport. Since one must pass security again for the onward inland flight it may be advisable to hurry and not spend too much time in transit.

Get around

We spen two week in Marmaris, was in many interesting places. Hundreds of restaurants, a walk along the sea front gives you a miriad of choices. International cuisine, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, English, French and of course Turkish. Turkish food is made from scratch with very fresh ingredients and tastes out of this world.

There are night club all over Marmaris, but particularly in the world famous Bar Street, which is one long street in Old Marmaris, with nightclub after nightclub. The clubs usually close a 4 am, you can find any kind of music and any kind of club from the huge 3,000 people foam party club to initmate jazz clubs. You will never get tired of clubbing in Marmaris.

Bars by the hundred seem to be on almost every street. You will be made very welcome and bar owners work hard to ensure you come back to them. You and your local bar staff, can become friends for life. People come back to the same bar year after year.
