Travel insurance provides cover for a range of areas reflected in the main sections of a travel policy. Policies typically have the following six sections – medical expenses, personal liability, personal accident, cancellation and curtailment, delayed and missed departures, and money and belongings.
Why Get Travel Insurance?
You may wonder why you should buy special travel insurance for your vacation. It's not just your investment you’ll be protecting; you’re also protecting yourself and your family. If you are involved in a car crash, injure yourself, lose your luggage during your trip, become ill, have to cancel your cruise, or are delayed en route and miss your connection, your ordinary insurance policies may not protect you! While it's true that many cruise lines offer travel insurance and some credit cards include baggage protection and flight travel insurance, those policies are usually limited, and don’t protect you from many serious risks.
Advice for travellers:
For total peace of mind whilst traveling we would recommend the following:
- That you purchase adequate travel insurance
- Make sure that your passport is valid
- Make sure that you check if you require a visa
- Check what vaccinations you require and ensure that you get any boosters
- If you are on medication ensure that you have enough to cover your trip
- Obtain a local guide book to the area
- If you intend travelling to European Union (EU) countries, the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, we would advise you to obtain a Form CM1 from your local main Post Office. On returning this, duly completed, to the main Post Office you will be issued with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
- Take enough money to cover your trip
- Cancel the milk, newspapers and anything else that might be delivered whilst you are away
- Get a good book to read and relax!
